A week in the 2023 Volkswagen Arteon 2.0T was exhilarating. This sleek and stylish sedan has been turning heads since its initial launch in 2019, and the latest 2023 model is no exception. With its refined design, powerful engine, and cutting-edge features, the limited production Arteon 2.0T Premium is among several near-luxury vehicles in the Volkswagen lineup.
Although Volkswagen is not a luxury brand, the VW Group, which owns Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, and Bugatti, produces several near-luxury VW models, including the Tiguan, Touareg, and Arteon.
However, the Arteon stands out due to its unique combination of style, performance, and affordability. Its sporty design, with bold lines and sculpted curves, sets it apart from more conservative luxury sedans, while its powerful engine and advanced features rival those of higher-priced competitors.
Once inside the Volkswagen Arteon 2.0T Premium, a luxurious and meticulously crafted interior greets you, which exudes an air of sophistication, with high-quality materials and attention to detail are evident throughout. The seats are clad in plush leather upholstery, offering excellent support and comfort even on long journeys.
Models/Price: The 2023 Volkswagen Arteon offers three trim levels: The Arteon SE R-Line ($43,010), Arteon SEL R-Line ($47,180), and the Arteon SEL Premium R-Line 4Motion ($50,175 MSRP).
Power: The Volkswagen Arteon 2.0T Premium is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that delivers 300 horsepower and 296 lb-ft of torque. The powertrain is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, producing smooth and seamless gear shifting. The Arteon 2.0T Premium also offers the option of Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, providing enhanced traction and stability in various road conditions.
Safety: Standard safety features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. In addition, it offers an available driver assistance package, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a surround-view camera system.
Fuel Economy: The Arteon achieves an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. In addition, it features a start-stop system, which automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stationary, reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The Arteon 2.0T Premium is also built with lightweight materials, improving fuel efficiency and reducing carbon footprint.
Unfortunately, Volkswagen plans to discontinue the Arteon next year to focus more on volume models. VW CEO Thomas Schäfer said, “We will focus on a small number of – though genuine – Volkswagen core models. This will reduce complexity and deliver higher profits.” VW is currently gearing up for the launch of the ID.7 EV.
