Welcome to Malibu for a preview of the first-ever 2024 Mazda CX-90, which represents the top-of-the-line and flagship vehicle for the Japanese automaker. The three-row crossover rides on an all-new large platform and features electrified powertrains, including an inline 6 turbo and a plug-in hybrid for efficient performance. To exaggerate the styling, owners can opt for stylish 21″ diamond-cut rims finished in a black metallic hue and choose the new premium Artisan Red exterior finish which captivates your sense of sight.
The CX-90 consists of a front engine layout, rear-wheel-bias performance, and standard i-Activ AWD that comes in handy during bad weather days. With seating for up to eight passengers, comfort takes precedence whether you’re cruising around town running errands, heading out for a road trip to visit relatives, or attending your daughter’s volleyball tournament three states away.
For performance, your first powertrain choice is the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine adapted to work alongside the electric motor and 17.8 kWh high-capacity battery. The e-Skyactiv PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) features 323-horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. This unit can drive specifically in electric mode for better peace of mind. Secondly is the e-Skyactiv G 3.3-liter inline 6 Turbo, distributing 340-horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Representing as the most potent mass-production engine for Mazda, it is engineered with M-Hybrid Boost to provide simultaneous efficiency and performance without one compromising the other. Both are paired with an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission.
“At Mazda, our focus is to deliver an ownership experience that enriches the lives of our customers. With each new vehicle launch, we challenge ourselves to progress through our human-centric approach of design and engineering,” said Jeff Guyton, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations. “CX-90 offers powerful and responsive performance, alluring design, and intuitive technology. We’re very proud of our team’s work on CX-90, which we know is a breakthrough vehicle in its segment.”
Take a methodical look at the CX-90 from every angle to witness defining proportions that are wider, longer, and more aggressive than any prior Mazda you’re acquainted with. Mazda describes this human-centric design technique as alluring and the technology as intuitive. Every vehicle element from cabin space and cargo capacity to safety features and amenities has been optimized for elevated user experiences. Step inside to an interior invigorated by traditional Japanese aesthetics that commingle chrome, Nappa leather, woods, and tone-on-tone fabrics for an elegant feel. Occupants will enjoy the 12.3” center display, a “see-through view monitor” for parking assistance, USB-C charging ports, air-conditioned vents, and upgraded interior lighting. Additionally, the CX-90 is enhanced with Kinematic Posture Control, which reduces body lift in tight turns to increase grip and help passengers maintain a natural posture. This specific capability is achieved through advanced software engineering.
The CX-90 is much larger than the outgoing CX-9 and goes on sale this spring. Stay tuned as we provide detailed driving impressions in March.
