The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EUV is an all-new, all-electric crossover-like version of the Bolt EV sedan. As a new entry into the small SUV segment, the Bolt EUV (Electric Utility Vehicle) has more interior space than the outgoing Bolt EV.
General Motors produced the Chevrolet Bolt EUV to expand the Bolt lineup with a smaller Electric SUV popular among consumers. It is also part of its long-term goal to launch 30 new EVs worldwide by 2025.
Built at GM’s Lake Orion Plant in Michigan, the Bolt EUV is three inches longer than the Bolt EV, has a lower starting price, and offers GM’s new hands-free Super Cruise technology. In addition, the wheelbase is 105.3 inches, which increases rear-seat legroom.
However, while they share the same battery technology, the EUV has a 247-mile electric range compared to the 259-mile range of the Bolt EV. Despite the difference in range, the Bolt EUV is fun to drive on highways and city. It accelerates quickly and effortlessly handles sharp curves and exit ramps.
Models/Price: The 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV comes in two styles: The Bolt EUV LT ($28,795) and the Premier ($33,295 MSRP).
Since the starting price is significantly less than the previous Bolt EV, getting the Premier model with loads of standard equipment makes more sense. The Premier includes power-adjustable leather seats with heat and ventilation, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.
The new Bolt EUV also offers regenerative braking options to improve battery recharging while driving. The system can be set from less regenerated braking to more with the paddle shifter on the steering wheel and a one-pedal mode on the center console.
A new Redline Edition package for 2023 is available for the LT or the Premier models. Instead of the regular Chrome trimming, the Redline Edition has glossy black trim with unique wheels and red stripes.
Power/Battery: The Bolt EUV is powered by a spirited 200-horsepower electric motor with front-wheel drive. It has a 65.0-kWh battery that gets about 247 miles on a full charge. All-wheel drive is optional.
Economy: According to the EPA, the Bolt EUV averages a combined 115 MPGe. Recharging 26 miles on a Level 2 240-volt home fast charger takes about an hour. It takes 30 minutes per 100 miles on a Level 3 super-fast charger. Overnight charging on a Level 2 home charger takes about 9.5 hours for a full charge.
Chevrolet will cover the installation of a Level 2 home charger for eligible customers that purchase or lease a 2022 or 2023 Bolt. In addition, the Bolt may also qualify for a Clean Vehicle Federal Tax Credit for up to $7,500. First, however, consult with a tax professional.
