Come July 5th, my birthday, I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club – a sporty roadster designed to offer pure driving pleasure. Unfortunately, the intense heat in Washington, D.C., didn’t provide many chances to take advantage of the open-air experience. However, the few moments I did, I was captivated by this convertible, a favorite of car enthusiasts since its launch in 1989.

Models/Price: The MX-5 Miata Club has two open-top body styles: a classic fabric top ($31,550) and a retractable hard-top Targa (MSRP $38,950).

Power: Powering the vehicle is a 181-horsepower four-cylinder engine, which can be operated with either a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional automatic transmission. The manual gearbox is the only option available with the Club trim. The car is lightweight, and the chassis is tuned for precision. This allows the driver to enjoy an enjoyable and responsive experience, whether driving on winding roads or the city streets.

Performance: The MX-5 Miata Club is not just about power; it’s about precision. Mazda has expertly tuned the chassis of the MX-5 Miata Club to ensure maximum fun on the road. This convertible roadster handles like a dream with its taut suspension and precise steering. Whether tackling winding roads or navigating city streets, the MX-5 Miata Club responds eagerly to your every command. The Club trim has 17-inch wheels, a limited-slip rear differential, and a sport-tuned suspension, making it the perfect choice for those who crave the ultimate driving experience.

Features: Connectivity features such as Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto come standard, with Navigation and HD radio being optional. Additionally, the car is equipped with various driver-assistance features, including automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-departure warning.

Fuel Economy: The MX-5 Miata Club also offers great fuel efficiency, with a 2.0-liter engine getting up to 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.

Safety: Both the NHTSA and the IIHS have given the car favorable crash-test ratings.

Cons: Although the MX-5 Miata Club’s cockpit is driver-focused, truck and storage space is limited and only accommodates the bare essentials.
