While the 2021 Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring plug-in hybrid emphasizes comfort, the three-row crossover SUV includes the latest hybrid powertrain, performance, and safety technology.
Ford’s Co-Pilot360 system is standard on the Aviator. It includes intelligent adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist, speed sign recognition, forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic forward emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, lane-departure warning, and automatic high-beam headlights. It also has a camera that warns you if you take your eyes off the road.
Other standard equipment includes a 10-inch touchscreen, Ford’s Sync 3 interface, 4G in-car WIFI, Apple Car Play, Android Auto, satellite radio, 360-degree camera, active park assist, and wireless phone charging. In addition, the Black Label edition adds rear USB ports and a Revel Ultima 3D audio system with 28 speakers, which includes the Calm app with relaxing sounds like rainfall, ocean waves, and wind.
Models/Pricing: The Lincoln Aviator hybrid comes in two versions: The Grand Touring four-door AWD plug-in hybrid ($69,545) and the four-door Black Label Grand Touring plug-in hybrid ($88,985). The Reserve and Black Label packages include all-wheel drive and 21-inch wheels. Plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) vehicles are also eligible for federal tax credits.
Power: Under the hood of the Aviator Plug-In Hybrid SUV is a beefy 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged six-cylinder gas engine and a 13.6 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. Together, they generate 494 HP and 630 LB-FT of torque. In addition, all models come with a 10-speed automatic hybrid transmission and all-wheel drive.
It takes about 12 hours to fully charge the Aviator PHEV on a 120V home socket and only four hours on a 240V outlet. It can also be charged at public EV stations. Unlike many other PHEVs that run on gas and EV above certain speeds, the Aviator has a batter-only mode that will go up to 80 mpg for about 21 miles on EV alone. In addition, regenerative braking can recharge the battery, like a regular hybrid, while driving.
Fuel Economy: The 2021 Lincoln Aviator PHEV averages 23 combined city/highway MPG and 56 MPEG city/highway on electric and gas.
